Zubeen Garg, born on 18 November 1972 in Tura, Meghalaya, is one of the most loved and versatile artists in the Indian music industry. He grew up in Jorhat, Assam, surrounded by music, inspired by his parents—his father Mohini Mohan Borthakur was a lyricist and his mother Ily Borthakur a singer. Zubeen’s musical journey began at a young age, and he rose to fame with the iconic Assamese album “Anamika” in the 1990s. His magical voice soon captured the hearts of millions across India.

Apart from Assamese music, Zubeen lent his voice to Hindi, Bengali, and other regional films. His Bollywood breakthrough came with the chartbuster song “Ya Ali” from the movie Gangster (2006), which became a nationwide sensation. Known for his dynamic performances and soulful melodies, Zubeen Garg became a symbol of Assamese pride and culture.

On 19 September 2025 he died at Singapoore. His contribution extended beyond singing—he composed music, acted in films, directed movies, and wrote poetry. Even after his passing, Zubeen’s voice continues to echo in every heart, inspiring generations of music lovers. His legacy remains eternal—a true legend, forever the “Soul of Assam”.
